One of the greatest leader in history, Napoleon Bonaparte, once said "a leader is a dealer in hope". This highlight one of the key challenge of the leader, who needs to provide to his organisation a clear, enticing, yet reachable, view of the future. The ability of leaders to create possibilities, to open options, to inspire optimism is a powerful driver of change and innovation in a business. Under these conditions everything becomes possible, creativity becomes the standard and great results always follow.
Of course this becomes a further challenge in difficult times, when business results or team spirit are suffering. Those are testing times for leaders, who need to keep the ship steady and maintain the right level of optimism in their organisation, despite the difficult conditions. In my experience, an important leadership act here is helping people look at the positive side of any situation. This requires the courage to recognise where change is needed and the belief that change is possible. Any leader who can build this mindset in his team will be indeed become "a dealer in hope"


      REASONS TO BE OPTIMISTIC

After running a strategic session with one of my clients last year, I got into a cab bound for the airport along with one of the attendees. As I searched for my seatbelt in the tangle of belts in the back seat I noticed that my fellow passenger was not wearing her seatbelt. I asked her if she could not find her belt and she replied, "Nope, I dont wear them in taxis, I'm an optimist."
