Cortney Smith, Partner, Americas
Cortney first learned about Sensei through a workshop she attended by Omar Khan. She knew at that point that she wanted to be involved in the type of work that Sensei does. She joined the Sensei team in 2009 and uses her passion for event planning to plan Journeys.
Cortney graduated from Iowa State University and received a bachelor’s degree in French and International Studies. She has corporate experience in supply chain and logistics, and has worked in customer service, fleet management, and business development at CRST International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also worked in inventory supply management at Cargill in Wayzata, Minnesota. Cortney most recently worked at Powered by Professionals, planning fundraising events in Manhattan for several different charities.
Cortney’s interest in event planning began while studying abroad in Cannes, France. She volunteered at the annual American Foundation for AIDS Research event, Cinema Against AIDS. She loved the energy in preparation for the event, and was impressed with the amazing acts of generosity during the event. She realized then that producing a meaningful event takes people out of their day-to-day mindsets, and helps them focus on solutions, and on each other. She enjoys helping people navigate issues through a well-planned Journey.
Cortney’s passions, beyond planning events, include horseback riding in which she has been nationally competitive, fine cooking and dining, spending time with her family, and traveling as much as possible.
